In partnership with pharmaceutical companies, ScriptAssist is able to identify a specific drug and a patient population that would benefit from increased prescription compliance. Patients receive personal contact over the phone from licensed registered nurses who are trained to assess patient risk for noncompliance and intervene with psychological techniques that improve patient medication persistence. These nurses implement empirically supported psychological techniques, following a structured intervention protocol, to help patients use their medications correctly on an ongoing basis. This service is provided at no charge, to either the patient or the physician, through the pharmaceutical company's sponsorship. Positive results are seen promptly, with an expected decrease in noncompliance of about 45%. By carefully supporting initial prescription fulfillment and continuing refills, ScriptAssist generate enhanced patient and physician satisfaction, while extending the average length of prescribed treatment among enrolled patients.
Specifically, ScriptAssist offers the following results:
- Increased first fills of new prescriptions by targeting patients as the physician writes the script.
- Increased average length of treatment through targeted interventions resulting in increased patient prescriptions per year (varies by drug class).
- Improved patient education and self-management through focused outreach and education resulting in greater patient compliance and satisfaction.
Our program is patient centric and offers patients the following:
- Cognitive restructuring for patients with unhelpful or inaccurate beliefs
- Motivational interviewing for patients who are unsure about their treatment
- Assertiveness intervention for patients who have difficulty communicating with their doctors and/or caregivers
- Psychological interventions to assist patients with physical disabilities, cognitive barriers and/or emotional problems
- Outreach to family member or a caregiver if necessary
